Scotland win Homeless World Cup in Paris

After eight days of action featuring 64 national teams and more than 300 matches, Scotland won the 2011 Homeless World Cup in Paris and Kenya the women's tournament.

Scotland have won the UEFA-backed 2011 Homeless World Cup, the ninth edition of the world-class international football tournament that aims to beat homelessness. The Scots defeated Mexico 4-3 in front of hundreds of spectators in Paris to lift the Homeless World Cup for the second time.

Kenya, meanwhile, were crowned champions of the Women's Homeless World Cup after they overcame Mexico in the final, also by 4-3. More than 300 street soccer matches were played during the eight-day tournament which involved 64 national teams of homeless players participating on the Champs de Mars, in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower.

Now that the Paris 2011 tournament is officially closed, the baton will be handed to men's and women's finalists Mexico for the Mexico City 2012 Homeless World Cup.

The Homeless World Cup is a unique, pioneering social enterprise that exists to end homelessness by using football to energise homeless people to change their own lives. The Homeless World Cup inspires national grassroots football projects and engages over 30,000 homeless players a year to change their lives: more than 70% change for the better.

In its drive for social responsibility, UEFA has backed the Homeless World Cup from the beginning, and the tournament has grown considerably since its first edition in Graz in 2003.
