• A senior manager at a bank in his native Israel, Avraham Luzon became chairman of his hometown club Maccabi Petach-Tikva FC in 1991 and went on to take up several positions with the Israel Football Association (IFA), including vice-president and treasurer, before becoming president in 2007.

• Luzon has modernised the administration at the IFA.

• A married father of three, his main aim remains to steer Israel to a major final tournament for the first time since the 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, saying of his work as IFA president: "I see this role as like being the Prime Minister of the Israeli footballing government."
