• A magistrate in Koblenz from 1980 to 1985, Theo Zwanziger was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament from 1985 to 1987 and was later district president in Koblenz, subsequently founding his own law firm in his home town, Altendiez, which he ran until 2004.

• A German Football Association (DFB) board member from 1992 to 2001, he served as the DFB treasurer from 2001 to 2004 and became joint-president along with Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder in 2004, before taking sole command two years later.

• A vehement campaigner against racism, xenophobia and homophobia, he believes football is for everyone, saying: "We know about the importance of the national team and the league, but one must not forget the 26,000 amateur clubs, the power football has to integrate as well as the importance of girls playing football."
