Former Portuguese international defender João Morais has died aged 75 following a long illness.
Part of the Portugal team that finished third at the 1966 FIFA World Cup, Morais earned his place in national folklore two years earlier in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final. Playing for Sporting Clube de Portugal, where he spent 14 seasons, he scored the only goal of the game against MTK Budapest direct from a corner to seal the title.
