Czechosklovakia's Kuna passes away at 64

One-time Czechoslovakia midfielder Ladislav Kuna, who won five national titles as a player with FC Spartak Trnava, has died at the age of 64 after a long battle with cancer.

Former Czechoslovakia and FC Spartak Trnava star Ladislav Kuna has died at the age of 64 after a long battle with cancer.

Once a crafty midfielder, he scored nine goals in 47 appearances for the Czech Republic, appeared at the 1970 FIFA World Cup and was his country's player of the year in 1969. Born in Hlohovec, Kuna joined Trnava at 17 and dedicated the bulk of his career to the club, winning national titles in 1968, 1969, 1971, 1972 and 1973. He famously scored both goals in a 2-0 home victory over AFC Ajax in the 1968/69 European Champion Clubs' Cup semi-final, but his side went on to lose the return fixture 3-0 in Amsterdam.

Having ended his playing career in Austria with FK Admira Wien – nowVfB Admira Wacker Mödling – Kuna coached Trnava, 1. Wiener Neustädter SC and DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda. More recently he became the chairman of the Trnava board in 2006.
