Fans a credit to the game

FC Internazionale Milano and FC Bayern München's fans have been thanked for the superb atmosphere they helped to create around Saturday's UEFA Champions League final.

UEFA president Michel Platini has thanked the supporters of FC Internazionale Milano and FC Bayern München for their contribution in making Saturday's UEFA Champions League final a memorable occasion.

The two sets of fans brought colour, song and vibrancy to the final at Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu. "I would like to congratulate the supporters of the two clubs for creating a superb atmosphere, before, during and after the final," said Mr Platini.

The final was the first UEFA Champions League showpiece to be played on a Saturday, allowing families and youngsters in particular to participate fully, and visitors to Madrid revelled in the special atmosphere created by European club football's blue-riband event.

"The way the Inter and Bayern fans conducted themselves was a credit to the game and its values, and the fair play and respect they displayed is worthy of the highest praise," he added.
