Hat-trick
Valencia CF forward Villa, 26, got Spain off to the perfect start in Austria with a hat-trick in the opening 4-1 Group D win against Russia, the first treble in the UEFA European Championship finals since 2000. His injury time goal four days later against Sweden secured a 2-1 win and first place in the group, and Villa's tally of four strikes was not matched by any other player in the competition, even though he was to miss the final defeat of Germany with a thigh injury.
