Spain's Digital+ awarded media rights packages

Multiple media rights for the UEFA Champions League in Spain have been acquired by the pay television operator Digital+ for the 2012-15 period of the elite competition.

UEFA announced today the award of multiple 2012-15 UEFA Champions League media rights packages to pay television operator Digital+ in Spain.

Digital+ has acquired the right to broadcast, live and delayed, all matches (with the exception of the Tuesday first-match pick) as well as the rights to Tuesday and Wednesday highlights programmes. The UEFA Champions League final, the UEFA Super Cup and the Tuesday and Wednesday highlights programmes have been awarded on a non-exclusive basis.

Digital+ will broadcast the UEFA Champions League matches via a range of its extensive family of channels.

In line with UEFA's platform neutral approach, the rights will also be exploited via Digital+'s websites, as well as on the mobile portal Digital+ movil. As a result, football fans across Spain will have a wide choice of coverage both on television and via online and mobile services.

Commenting on the award of these rights, Guy-Laurent Epstein, marketing director of UEFA Events SA, said: "Digital+ has shown a strong commitment to winning the UEFA Champions League media rights. They have proposed very extensive programming commitments on all platforms allowing fans to enjoy great coverage of the competition on multiple devices. We are happy to welcome Digital+ back into the UEFA Champions League family."

UEFA would like to thank its incumbent pay rights holder and valued partner, GolTV, for its contribution to the UEFA Champions League. GolTV's commitment during the current rights term is much appreciated.

The remaining rights on offer include live coverage of the Tuesday first-match pick, the UEFA Champions League final and the UEFA Super Cup along with the non-exclusive Tuesday and Wednesday highlights programmes. Further information on these rights will be issued in due course.

UEFA Events is a wholly owned subsidiary of UEFA, created to manage and handle the European governing body's commercial and event operations. It is, among other things, responsible for generating media rights, sponsorship, licensing and hospitality revenue from all professional national team and club competitions, and for managing relationships with all associated commercial partners.

TEAM Marketing is the exclusive marketing agency of UEFA for the exploitation of certain media and commercial rights relating to the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and UEFA Europa League.
