UEFA announced today the award of media rights packages to free-to-air broadcaster ORF for the 2012-15 UEFA Europa League and to pay television operator Sky Österreich for comprehensive coverage of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League during the same three-year cycle in Austria.
Following the recent award of certain media rights for the UEFA Champions League to PULS 4 this announcement concludes the sale of media rights for UEFA club competitions in Austria.
ORF secured the rights to broadcast live coverage of one match per matchweek including the UEFA Europa League final, as well as highlights on ORFeins. In addition, where there is a second Austrian team participating, ORF will broadcast the match live on the same channel. This will guarantee wide coverage of Austrian participation in the competition on free-to-air television in the country.
UEFA wishes to thank its incumbent free-to-air rights holder and valued partner of UEFA, Sat1, for its contribution to the development of the UEFA Europa League in Austria.
Incumbent rights holder Sky Österreich has renewed its rights for 2012-15 to broadcast all UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League matches as well as highlights across its pay platform.
In line with UEFA's platform-neutral approach, the rights will also be exploited on the internet via ORF and Sky Österreich's respective websites as well as via their mobile portals.
