UEFA announced today that public service broadcaster RTP and leading commercial broadcasters SIC and TVI have been awarded free-to-air media rights to UEFA EURO 2012 in Portugal.
The three broadcasters will ensure extensive live free-to-air coverage of the tournament via the transmission of 19 matches (including the opening and final matches) and highlights programmes of all 31 games. RTP, SIC and TVI will also complement their coverage of UEFA EURO 2012 with a variety of dedicated magazine programmes during the lead-up to the finals.
All 19 matches will also be made available simultaneously on the content partners' respective internet and mobile platforms.
The award of the free-to-air rights adds a further layer to the already strong distribution achieved through the existing agreement with Sport TV for the pay rights in Portugal. Sport TV will show every game live along with comprehensive highlights from every match and a series of magazine and support programmes related to the EURO.
Mediator Servicing SA is an independent European Broadcasting Union (EBU) subsidiary fully dedicated to the UEFA EURO 2012 project and acts as UEFA's exclusive agent for marketing EURO media rights in the following seven territories: Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, Hungary, Israel, Kazakhstan, Portugal (free-to-air media rights only) and Slovakia.
