UEFA announced today the award of certain 2012–15 UEFA Champions League free-to-air media rights in Brazil to Globo.
As part of the agreement, Globo will sub-license to TV Bandeirantes the Wednesday first-pick live match until the quarter-finals. From the last-eight stage onwards, Globo and TV Bandeirantes will broadcast on a live basis the first pick of the matchweek. In addition, and throughout the season, extensive news coverage of the competition will be featured on Globo and a highlights programme will be shown every matchweek on TV Bandeirantes.
Live match coverage of the UEFA Champions League will also be available on the internet via globoesporte.com and on mobile.
Commenting on the award of these rights, UEFA said: "UEFA is delighted to continue its partnership with Globo, who delivered impressive audience figures the past two seasons. The renewal of this deal will allow football fans across the country to watch Europe's premier club competition on Brazil's strongest channel and further increase the reach of the competition in the territory."
The remaining UEFA Champions League media rights packages are still to be awarded and will be tendered in a second round. Moreover, no rights are being awarded at this stage for the UEFA Europa League. Further announcements will be made regarding these rights in due course.
TEAM Marketing is the exclusive marketing agency of UEFA for the exploitation of certain media and commercial rights relating to the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and UEFA Europa League.
