EURO apps prove soaring success

The official UEFA EURO 2012 mobile application is ranked the No1 sport app in four European countries on iTunes and Google Play stores, and is in the top five in 70 other territories.

With over 4.5 million downloads worldwide, the official UEFA EURO 2012 app is ranked the number one sport app in four European countries (United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy) on iTunes and Google Play stores, and is in the top five in 70 other territories including the United States.

The app from UEFA is the most comprehensive mobile application for the UEFA European Football Championship on the market, with content available in 12 languages across eight mobile platforms including iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, Bada, and Java, and a mobile-optimised site at m.uefa.com.

The app was designed to deliver all the information needed for fans to enjoy the final tournament anywhere and at any time. This latest surge in subscriptions means that UEFA now serves a cumulative audience of nine million football fans through its mobile application offerings across all competitions.

The app gives fans worldwide unrivalled access to information from the UEFA EURO 2012 tournament taking place in Poland and Ukraine. Fans are able to view live results, team and player statistics, photos, video highlights after midnight, news reports and customised alerts throughout the competition. In the 11 countries where UEFA is partnering with Orange, the app has reached over 2 million downloads and also offers additional features developed by UEFA and Orange, including a 'Fan Kit' section where users can customise and share content with friends to become the ultimate supporter, travel guides for the host cities and a match location finder which provides users with directions to various pubs and bars where games are being shown.

Alexandre Fourtoy, UEFA's director of communications, said: "We are delighted with the incredible global download figures for the UEFA EURO 2012 app. Our objective was to reach out and engage with fans across the globe on a variety of digital platforms so that they can experience the excitement of the UEFA European Championship anywhere and at any time. The app's main strength is its simple and intuitive design which allows users to quickly find the information they need."
