UEFA Appeals Body alters Russian FA punishment

The disciplinary measures imposed on the Football Union of Russia for the improper conduct of fans at a UEFA EURO 2012 match have been partially changed upon appeal.

The UEFA Appeals Body has partially upheld an appeal lodged by the Football Union of Russia (RFS) against the punishment handed down as a result of the improper conduct of its supporters during a UEFA EURO 2012 finals match.

The original decision of the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body on 13 June was to impose a six-point deduction on the RFS for the UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying competition – which was suspended until the end of the play-offs – as well as a €120,000 fine.

However, after the UEFA Appeals Body met to rule on the appeal, the RFS no longer faces a potential points penalty in UEFA EURO 2016 qualification but has instead been ordered to play its first three home UEFA EURO 2016 qualifiers behind closed doors. This disciplinary measure is suspended for a probationary period running until the close of that qualifying competition. The fine of €120,000 remains unchanged.

The charges for improper conduct by supporters (crowd disturbances), the setting off and throwing of fireworks, and the display of illicit banners, related to Russia's UEFA EURO 2012 Group A match against the Czech Republic in Wroclaw, Poland, on 8 June.
