Fenerbahçe sanctions announced

UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body has handed down sanctions to Fenerbahçe SK following incidents at their UEFA Europa League match against VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body has handed down sanctions to Fenerbahçe SK following incidents at their UEFA Europa League match against VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach on 6 December 2012. The club were charged with the throwing of missiles and/or fireworks by their supporters and with insufficient organisation.

The Turkish team have been ordered to play their next UEFA Europa League home game behind closed doors. This applies to their round of 32 second-leg fixture against FC BATE Borisov on 21 February.

The UEFA Control and Disciplinary has decided to revoke the suspended sanction against Fenerbahçe of playing one UEFA club competition match behind closed doors following a previous disciplinary decision of 18 October after similar incidents occurred at their game against FC Spartak Moskva on 29 August 2012.

The Turkish team have also been fined €40,000.

An appeal may be lodged against this decision within three days of the dispatch of the reasoned decision.
