Fair play ruling for Van Bommel

Cases

Mark van Bommel has been ordered to promote fair play at a UEFA youth competition after being found guilty of making inappropriate gestures to supporters.

The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body has ordered FC Bayern München midfielder Mark van Bommel to promote fair play at a UEFA youth competition after he was found guilty of making inappropriate gestures to supporters after scoring for Bayern at Real Madrid CF in their UEFA Champions League first knockout round first-leg match on 20 February.

Fair play
In an innovative decision, the Control and Disciplinary Body ordered Van Bommel "to be at the disposal of UEFA to promote fair play to youth players during a youth competition to be determined in the course of this year." As well as this social and educational assignment, the 29-year-old Dutch international also received a one-match ban from UEFA club competitions, deferred for a probationary period of one year, and a fine of €6,200.
