Appeal made
The world governing body's disciplinary committee originally decided the Turkish Football Association (TFF) must "play its next six official home games behind closed doors in a neutral venue in another country affiliated to UEFA with a minimum distance of 500km to the Turkish border". However, it has cut that to three following representations to the FIFA Appeal Committee, while Benjamin Huggel and Emre Belözoglu will now only be banned for four competitive games, rather than six.
Responsibility accepted
A FIFA statement said: "It was deemed that the original sanctions could be reassessed after the association and the players had publicly apologised for their indiscretions. Most notably, the Turkish Football Association accepted full responsibility for the incidents in connection with the above-mentioned match and acknowledged the damage caused to the reputation of international football. At the same time, the association pledged that it would do everything in its power to prevent similar incidents being repeated in the future."
Fines
The TFF's original €130,000 fine and the €10,000 fines given to Huggel and Emre for their part in the events on 16 November still stand, while the previous sanctions against players Alpay Özalan and Serkan Balcı, a six and two-game ban respectively, and officials Mehmet Özdilek and Stephan Meyer have not been reviewed. In closing the matter, FIFA said if any "further incidents occur" during Turkey’s next three home competitive matches or the three following that then "the original sanctions will be restored", subject to additional sanctions from UEFA.
