Making a dream come true

A young French boy's wish is granted as he meets AC Milan's stars in Monaco.

UEFA and UEFA Super Cup finalists AC Milan joined forces recently to make a 14-year-old French boy's wish come true.

Training session
Yassine Boudehane, who is suffering from a life-threatening illness, watched the UEFA Champions League holders in their training session at Monaco's Stade Louis II as they prepared for their Super Cup assignment with FC Porto last month.

Maldini greeting
Unknown to Yassine, he was then invited on to the pitch to be greeted by Paolo Maldini and presented with a shirt identical to the one worn by the Milan players in the Super Cup. He also received a match ball signed by Maldini and the rest of the Milan squad, who themselves undertake considerable charity work on behalf of children as part of the club's own foundation.

Lost father
Yassine, who has a serious form of diabetes, lost his father to cancer earlier this year, and has a brother of 20 who is also suffering from cancer. His dreams of becoming a professional footballer were destroyed by illness after being selected for a trial by a club in Lyon. He was accompanied to Monaco by his mother.

Thousands of requests
The visit was organised jointly by UEFA and the worldwide Make-A-Wish Foundation International, which receives thousands of requests from children to meet their favourite player, watch their favourite team or even to attend major competitions.

Good partnership
UEFA has developed a good working partnership with Make-A-Wish Foundation International, and helped children from Greece, Ireland, Israel, the United Kingdom and the United States to have their wishes fulfilled. Last year, Make-A-Wish Foundation International granted more than 12,000 wishes worldwide.
