Top European national-team coaches have joined football stars in giving the thumbs-up to the new Eat for Goals! book for youngsters launched by UEFA, the World Heart Federation and the European Commission.

Interested readers
Coaches such as Fabio Capello (England), Vincent Del Bosque (Spain), Guus Hiddink (Russia), Otto Rehhagel (Greece) and Fatih Terim (Turkey), and French Football Federation technical director Gérard Houllier were interested readers of the book - in which a host of star players give recipes for their favourite dishes - at last week's UEFA Conference for European national Coaches in Vienna

Star players
Thirteen football stars have contributed to the book - in order of chapters, Abbas Suwan, Barry Ferguson, Birgit Prinz, Carles Puyol, Cathrine Paaske Sørensen, Fabio Cannavaro, Heurelho Gomes, Kelly Smith, Lukas Podolski, Miroslav Klose, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Steven Gerrard and Thierry Henry.

Active support
Through the active support of Eat for Goals! UEFA, the World Heart Federation and the European Commission are focusing attention on obesity, one of the major public health issues of the 21st century. "The world of football has long inspired people of any age and gender to exercise. It has now set out to inspire them to eat well too," said William Gaillard, UEFA director of communications.

Focus on children
Eat for Goals! was created for children aged five to eleven and is published in English, French and German by publisher Falkemedia based in Kiel, Germany. The book is in hardback and costs €12.90. It will be available in bookshops throughout Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland from the end of October.

The book is already available to be ordered online at www.falkemedia-shop.de and via the UEFA and World Heart Federation websites. Postage and delivery cost an additional €5 to European countries outside Germany. Discussions are at an early stage regarding publication in other formats and in other European languages and countries.
