With UEFA EURO 2012 approaching fast, children in Ukraine are being encouraged to take up healthy lifestyles thanks to the publication in Ukrainian of the successful cookery book Eat for Goals!

Through the active support of the Eat for Goals! cookbook, UEFA, the World Heart Federation and the European Commission wish to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease, Europe's No1 public health issue.

Eat for Goals! – now available in ten languages – is about good food, cooking and football. It aims to encourage young people to live an active, healthy lifestyle. Ukrainian internationals Andriy Shevchenko and Anatoliy Tymoshchuk have enriched the book with their favourite recipes and given it a local touch.

Moreover, UEFA EURO 2012 mascots Slavek and Slavko were on hand to join in the fun at the Ukrainian edition's official launch at the Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) headquarters in Kyiv.

A healthy lifestyle is based on healthy food and regular exercise. This key message is conveyed in the book by a multi-ethnic group of 13 internationally renowned male and female footballers. These role models share with readers the recipes for their favourite healthy dishes and some insights into what they love to eat.

Eat for Goals! is an educational tool, highlighting the interdependency between a balanced, healthy diet and performance, which is crucial for top athletes.

Children are increasingly adopting unhealthy lifestyles, with poor diet, smoking, alcohol and physical inactivity the leading causes of obesity, heart disease and strokes. Overweight children are three to five times more likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke before they reach the age of 65.

The world of football has long inspired men and women of all ages to exercise and play. It has now set out to motivate them to eat well too. In the run-up to UEFA EURO 2012, children are being encouraged to Respect your Health.
