Angulo cornered by injury

Valencia CF midfield player Miguel Angulo will be out of action for up to six weeks after a knee operation.

Ready to return
Angulo, who has been in outstanding form this season, tore a knee cartilage during the first half of Saturday's 2-0 win over Villarreal CF. "We decided to operate on him this morning," club doctor Jordi Candel said. "We believe his recovery will take between five and six weeks, but knowing the player he could be ready to return before that."

Triple blow
According to Candel, Angulo's fellow midfield player, David Albelda, will be sidelined for two to three weeks because of a muscle tear, while Argentinian playmaker Pablo Aimar is suffering from a minor groin strain.

Real contenders
Champions Valencia are second in the Spanish first division, four points behind leaders Real Sociedad but four ahead of third-placed Real Madrid CF. On Sunday, they entertain another title rival, RC Deportivo La Coruña.

Roma double-header
However, Valencia will expect Angulo to be back by the time the UEFA Champions League resumes in Feburary, when they meet AS Roma twice in a consecutive weeks.
