Vieri fearing ligament damage

Internazionale FC and Juventus FC will be missing key players for their semi-finals, with Christian Vieri doubtful.

Internazionale FC coach Héctor Cúper said "it could be serious" after striker Christian Vieri suffered a suspected knee ligament injury after scoring as his team qualified for the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

'Suspected sprain'
The Italian club, who lost 2-1 on the night but progressed on the away-goals rule after Vieri scored the only goal of the first leg, said the injury was a "suspected sprain to the internal collateral [ligament] of the right knee". Vieri played on after treatment but was replaced by Alvaro Recoba in the 32nd minute.

Zanetti suspended
Further tests will determine the extent of the injury, though Vieri's participation in the semi-final against city rivals AC Milan or AFC Ajax appears in doubt. Cristiano Zanetti is a certain absentee through suspension for the 6 or 7 May first leg after being booked in the 78th minute for fouling Francisco Rufete.

Three banned
Tonight's other victorious side, Juventus FC, will be without Edgar Davids, Alessio Tacchinardi and Paolo Montero through suspension for the first leg of their meeting with Real Madrid CF or Manchester United FC in the last four. Davids was sent off and the latter two booked to collect one-match bans in a 2-1 extra-time success at FC Barcelona which sealed a 3-2 aggregate victory.
