River Plate join Madrid party

Argentina's CA River Plate have been confirmed as Real Madrid CF's opponents in this year's Trofeo Bernabeú, which will take place at the Santiago Bernabeú on 23 September.

Special significance
The annual event, now in its 25th year, honours legendary Madrid chairman Santiago Bernabeú, who was in charge at the club from 1943-78. This year's event has a special significance as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of Alfredo Di Stefano's debut for Madrid and the Spanish champions have decided it is only fitting that River Plate, Di Stefano's first club, should be invited as special guests.
