Giuly missing for Monaco

AS Monaco FC's Ludovic Giuly's toe fracture has ruled him out of the return against FC Lokomotiv Moskva.

AS Monaco FC have been dealt a major blow with the news that captain Ludovic Giuly will not be fit for next week's UEFA Champions League first knockout round second leg against FC Lokomotiv Moskva.

Foot fracture
The 27-year-old midfield player fractured a bone in his right foot at the end of January and, while the club had been optimistic that the French international would return for Wednesday's second leg, the latest set of X-rays have confirmed that he requires further rest.

'More rest required'
"The foot is healing but we have decided not to take any risks," Monaco's club doctor said. "He will therefore not play against Moscow. We must wait for the bone to heal completely, otherwise he risks doing further damage."

Significant loss
Giuly has been in inspirational form for the Ligue 1 leaders this season, scoring 13 goals – including two in the Champions League – and his absence is likely to be felt as Monaco look to overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit against their Russian opponents.
