Mutu 'admits' taking cocaine

Chelsea FC striker Adrian Mutu has admitted testing positive for cocaine, according to the PFA in England.

Talks held
The 25-year-old Romanian international met with the PFA yesterday and will reportedly not ask for his B sample to be analysed after the initial positive test. "We had a meeting with him yesterday and there will now be correspondence to the FA and a hearing proceeded with as quickly as possible without the second sample being tested," said Taylor.

Mutu 'destroyed'
He added: "He's accepted that he did test positive for cocaine and so we've got to deal with it under the social drugs procedure that we have in line with the FA." The player's agent, Gheorghe Popescu, said Mutu told him he had been tested at Chelsea's training ground in early October and that the forward had been "destroyed" by the news. He added: "Chelsea confirmed to me that Mutu had tested positive but did not reveal the substance."

Difficult time
Chelsea have yet to comment on the matter. Mutu has had a difficult time of late with injury and then fell out of favour with coach José Mourinho because he played for his country against club advice earlier this month.
