Vaughan tied to Everton until 2008

Everton FC striker James Vaughan, the English Premiership's youngest goalscorer, has signed his first professional contract with the Merseysiders.

Milestone strike
Vaughan struck on his top-flight debut against Crystal Palace FC last April, aged just 16 years and 271 days, bettering the record set by Newcastle United FC's James Milner, then of Leeds United AFC. The English Under-17 international has since made one other substitute appearance for Everton, who have rewarded his progress with a three-year contract which runs until the close of the 2007/08 campaign.

'A lot to learn'
"Playing football professionally is what you aim for when you are growing up and now I have been given a chance to do it," the 17-year-old said. "But it is only a chance and I know I have a lot to learn."
