Bremen's Baumann feels the strain

Werder Bremen will be without captain Frank Baumann for the first leg against FC Basel 1893 in Switzerland.

One-week absence
The German international pulled a thigh muscle during Bremen's 5-2 win over DSC Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday and failed to return for the second half. "Frank will most probably be out for a week," said coach Thomas Schaaf.

Captain Frings
Croatian international Jurica Vranjes, a summer signing from VfB Stuttgart, is likely to deputise for the 29-year-old after replacing him during that opening Bundesliga match. Torsten Frings will captain the side in Switzerland on Wednesday.
