Hargreaves happy to extend stay

Owen Hargreaves believes FC Bayern München "have a team capable of winning the UEFA Champions League" after signing a new contract until 2010.

Spectacular breakthrough
Born and raised in Canada to an English father and Welsh mother, Hargreaves moved to Germany from amateur side Calgary Foothills in 1997 and has since matured into a key cog in the Bayern machine. He broke through spectacularly in 2001, turning in a hugely-impressive performance in the UEFA Champions League final defeat of Valencia CF in what was only his second appearance in the competition. The 24-year-old has also won three Bundesliga crowns, two German Cups and 29 England caps.

'Quick decision'
"Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge expressed great faith in my ability and helped me come to a quick decision," Hargreaves said. "I'm looking forward to the years ahead, as I'm confident we'll continue to enjoy plenty of success. We have fantastic support, the best stadium in the world, and a team capable of winning the Champions League."

Ballack concern
While Hargreaves has committed to Bayern, doubts persist as to whether Michael Ballack will be plying his trade at the Fussball Arena München next term. Speaking ahead of Bayern's UEFA Champions League tie against Juventus on Tuesday, the Germany midfielder said: "The situation hasn't changed. I'll announce my decision as soon as it's been made. I don't want to stoke up any rumours while everything's still undecided."
