Shevchenko sets sights on Müller

Andriy Shevchenko will attempt to move even closer to Gerd Müller in the UEFA club competition top scorer standings, as AC Milan aim to go beyond the group stage.

Level
Shevchenko struck all four in Milan's 4-0 win at Fenerbahçe SK on 23 November, and the Italian club would welcome a similar return tonight as they look to reach the knockout stages. Shevchenko's four-timer, the first to be registered away from home in the UEFA Champions League, means he has 53 goals from 90 games, joining Real Madrid CF captain Raúl's 53 from 107 outings.

Müller in front
Shevchenko is just nine behind the record UEFA club competition scorer Gerd Müller, who scored 62 times in 71 matches for FC Bayern München, and only three short of SL Benfica legend Eusébio who hit 56 from 75. However, it is Raúl, with 51, who is most prolific in the UEFA Champions League proper, while Shevchenko has 40 in Europe's premier club tournament.

Other challengers
The other top marksmen still active in UEFA competition are Filippo Inzaghi (48 goals from 76 games), Ruud van Nistelrooij (47 from 65), Thierry Henry (47 from 95) and Henrik Larsson (46 from 84). Shevchenko, though, is favourite to overtake Müller, having scored prodigiously since his UEFA club debut for FC Dynamo Kyiv exactly eleven years before his four-goal show.

Competition definition
UEFA club competition goals are defined as those coming in the UEFA Champions League/European Champion Clubs' Cup, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, UEFA Cup, European/South American Cup, UEFA Intertoto Cup and UEFA Super Cup. All goals in qualifying rounds count.
