Vicente to sit out Shakhtar visit

Midfielder Vicente Rodríguez will miss Valencia CF's Group D game against FC Shakhtar Donetsk after spraining his troublesome left ankle on Sunday.

Midfielder Vicente Rodríguez will miss Valencia CF's UEFA Champions League Group D game against FC Shakhtar Donetsk at the Mestalla after spraining his ankle.

Sprained ankle
Vicente was forced off in his side's Primera División game against RC Celta de Vigo on Sunday night midway through the first half having damaged the joint during a challenge. The club feared a recurrence of the serious injury that required surgery after a UEFA Champions League game against Werder Bremen on 29 September 2004, but tests have revealed that he has just sprained his ankle and should be fit again within a week.

'I'm fine'
Vicente has been no stranger to ankle problems this year, having also damaged his right ankle on the 14 January, but he is not concerned about his current lay-off. "I'm fine," he said. "In the end it's nothing serious and the only concern was that this is the same ankle I had surgery on. It's swollen and it hurts but if all goes well I should be fit next week."
