Chivu praises Roma team effort

'Very organised'
A tight rearguard action and a goal on the break from Simone Perrotta sealed three precious points for Roma, who lie second behind Group D leaders Valencia CF on six points. "I think we were very organised," Chivu told uefa.com. "It was always going to be difficult for us playing in a stadium like this with noisy supporters and a pitch that was not in the best condition. But in the end, with a bit of luck, we got the win. Olympiacos had a few chances in the first half, but in the second we played very carefully because we knew what we had to do and we got the goal on the counterattack."

Crucial win
Roma were in need of a pick-me-up following last weekend's Serie A defeat by Reggina Calcio, and with Olympiacos visiting the Stadio Olimpico on Matchday 4, Chivu was delighted to have done the hard work in Athens. "It was crucial for us to win," the 25-year-old said. "Three points from a game like this is fantastic. Now we have six points and we are going to play Olympiacos again but at home, so it was very important that we won here."

Commanding
Chivu played a commanding role alongside Matteo Ferrari as Roma's centre-backs kept out Olympiacos's in-form front man Michalis Konstantinou. However, the Romanian international refused to take sole credit, saying: "Let's just say I was pleased with the way the team played. We want to go far in this competition but we have to take it step by step. At the moment we just need to focus on making it through to the knockout stage and then we can start thinking about the latter stages of the competition."
