Having scored a winner against Sir Alex Ferguson's side during a Premiership game for Wolverhampton Wanderers FC in January 2004, Celtic FC striker Kenny Miller is hoping to undo Manchester United FC again as the Group F leaders travel to Glasgow.
'Not impossible'
The 26-year-old Scotland striker already has three goals to his name in this season’s UEFA Champions League and is raring to go against the English Premiership leaders having shaken off an ankle injury. "This is up there as one of the biggest games of my career," Miller told uefa.com. "United are one of the best teams in Europe and they have started the season really well. [Wayne] Rooney, [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Louis] Saha have been on fire all season and at the heart of it all you have Paul Scholes pulling the strings in midfield. But it’s not impossible to stop them."
Fortress
United’s slip against FC København on Matchday 4 and subsequent exit from the English League Cup coupled with Celtic’s formidable home record in the UEFA Champions League with just one defeat in eleven has given Miller hope. "Parkhead has been a fortress for Celtic over the years in the Champions League, so hopefully we can maintain that record against United," said Miller. "The crowd are always behind us on these nights and they’re patient as well which is important. The atmosphere is going to be fantastic tonight and if you can’t play in that kind of environment you shouldn’t be playing the game."
Key partnership
Miller is also looking forward to renewing his strike partnership with Netherlands forward Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. The 28-year-old has missed Celtic’s last three UEFA Champions League matches with different ankle injuries, but having scored the first goal in Celtic’s opening day 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford, Miller feels that together they can pose a potent threat to the United defence. "Big Jan had a great game that night playing a lone striker role and took his goal really well," added Miller. "He’s a handful for any defender and hopefully he will be on his game. We need all our big players to perform if we are going to get a result against United."
