Rossoneri reel from double blow

AC Milan have suffered a double injury setback after learning that defenders Alessandro Nesta and Serginho must both undergo surgery later this week.

AC Milan have suffered a double injury blow after learning Alessandro Nesta and Serginho must both undergo surgery this week.

Impending operations
Nesta is set for a two-month spell on the sidelines as he will undergo an operation on his left shoulder on Monday. The Italy centre-back has been hampered by a recurring strain all season, the latest in a catalogue of injuries over the past two years. Serginho has also struggled with injury this term, a hernia limiting him to one Serie A appearance this campaign. The 35-year-old will have surgery on his back on Tuesday, and is likely to be out for three months.

Lille match
That would rule the versatile performer out of the UEFA Champions League last 16, which Nesta is targeting for his own return in mid-February. Milan face LOSC Lille Metropolé in their final Group H fixture on Wednesday, and although they could be without Kaká, Dida, Gennaro Gattuso, Giuseppe Favalli, Alessandro Costacurta, Massimo Ambrosini and Cafu, they are already assured of top spot.
