Tonel goal
Both teams pushed forward down the wings in the opening stages with Dynamo's Tiberiu Ghioane and Sporting's Ronny in the thick of the action. Dynamo goalkeeper Olexandr Shovkovskiy did well to claim Ronny’s teasing second-minute cross but he was beaten 12 minutes later. A misunderstanding between Vaschuk and Shovkovskiy led to a corner and they were made to pay for their lapse. The ball was played short for Yannick Djaló who swung in a cross that Shovkovskiy got to first only for his clearance to bounce back off Tonel and into the net.

Stojković saves
The goal sparked Dynamo to life and Sporting goalkeeper Vladimir Stojković did well to keep out Carlos Corrêa's powerful drive on 19 minutes. The pace of Liedson and Djaló remained a threat for Sporting and Liedson had a goal-bound lob cleared off the line before firing over from just outside the area. At the other end, Stojković had to be alert to tip Ghioane's cross over as the game opened up.

Dynamo level
Dynamo's movement was causing plenty of problems and that eventually told on 28 minutes when Maksim Shatskikh and Goran Gavrančić combined well before the latter's back-heel set up Vaschuk who shot low past Stojković. Dynamo supporters urged their team forward and first Shatskikh's shot was saved before Ayila Yussuf fired over as the home side continued to dominate. Local fans' joy was short-lived, however, as on 38 minutes Sporting struck again. Ronny crossed from the left and Shovkovskiy could only parry the ball into the path of Polga, who shot into the bottom corner.

Stojković impresses
Sporting coach Paulo Bento had warned not to anticipate much open football before the match but it proved otherwise as both sides created chances after the restart. Dynamo enjoyed more of the possession but still Sporting threatened. Liedson sent Djaló through on 51 minutes but Shovkovskiy saved as the striker bore down on goal. Stojković too was in impressive form, parrying Correa's vicious long-range shot before making two excellent saves from Kleber. Shovkovskiy had also made some crucial blocks to keep the home side in it, one goal, though, would prove enough for Sporting. They now face two ties against Roma, while Dynamo play Manchester United FC still looking for their first points of the campaign.
