Luís Figo will become the sixth player to make 100 UEFA Champions League appearances if selected for FC Internazionale Milano in their Group G fixture at PFC CSKA Moskva on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old Portuguese winger would join Raúl González, Roberto Carlos, David Beckham, Paolo Maldini and Oliver Kahn in the '100 club', reaching the mark a little over a decade after making his bow in the competition. That came in September 1997 when Figo scored in FC Barcelona's 3-2 group stage defeat by Newcastle United FC, a result that contributed to the Spanish side finishing bottom of their section and being eliminated.

Winner's medal
Figo's move to Real Madrid CF in 2000 brought an immediate change of fortunes for the player in the UEFA Champions League as Los Merengues reached the semi-finals in his debut season, and in 2001/02 he went one better. Playing despite injury, Figo helped Madrid beat Bayer 04 Leverkusen 2-1 in the final as the club were crowned European champions for a ninth time. Their title defence was ended in the last four 12 months later and Figo joined Inter in summer 2005, subsequently going no further than the tournament's last eight.

'Great club'
Speaking to uefa.com in the summer, Figo said the Nerazzurri "have everything required to go all the way" for the first time since 1965 but acknowledged that "obviously we'll also need a bit of luck". He continued: "We're determined to give something very special to this club and the UEFA Champions League is surely the queen of all European club competitions. Winning the UEFA Champions League is always difficult and very complicated because there are so many teams with great quality. We just have to keep working hard because Inter are a great club and deserve to compete for major honours every year. We know it's not easy but we have to try."
