Thigh trouble puts Benzema in doubt

Olympique Lyonnais are facing an anxious wait to discover whether striker Karim Benzema will recover from a thigh injury in time to face FC Barcelona on Tuesday night.

The 19-year-old – Ligue 1's top scorer with eleven goals in 15 appearances this season – was carried off two minutes into the second half of Lyon's 2-0 win at Stade Rennais FC on Saturday afternoon after colliding with Bruno Cheyrou. "He has jarred his right thigh," said club doctor Jean-Jacques Amprino after a scan early on Sunday morning. "We've done everything we could for his recovery right away, but he must be rated very doubtful to face Barcelona." Benzema, whose side have won their last two Group E games against VfB Stuttgart, is more confident, saying: "I feel like I will be OK but I await the green light from the doctor."
