Point against Valencia pleases Genk's Buffel

Thomas Buffel hopes KRC Genk's point against Valencia CF will be the first of many in Group E, but a 0-0 away draw was no disaster for Pablo Hernández who said: "It wasn't to be."

At the final whistle of their 0-0 UEFA Champions League Group E draw with Valencia CF, the KRC Genk players congratulated each other enthusiastically and applauded their fans. Thomas Buffel and captain David Hubert were clearly pleased with the result. Valencia had their chances, but Pablo Hernández said "it wasn't to be" and Éver Banega thought Unai Emery's side had work to do before their next UEFA Champions League appointment.

Thomas Buffel, Genk forward
It's a very good result for us; it's fantastic. Everyone wanted to enjoy playing in the Champions League but as soon as the referee started the game we wanted to go for a result as well. Tonight, we have got our first point and hopefully we can add some more in the coming games.

David Hubert, Genk midfielder and captain
It wasn't an easy match as Valencia had a lot of possession. We defended well tonight as a team. The coach told us at half-time to concentrate on our game and not let Valencia get a grip on the match. Our fans were great; they were behind us from the first minute to the last, and they gave us strength.

Pablo Hernández, Valencia midfielder
I'm not disappointed with the result. You always try to get a win but tonight it wasn't to be. Chelsea and Leverkusen will be difficult opponents, just as Genk have been. The key thing will be to get points at home.

Éver Banega, Valencia midfielder
We knew it was going to be a difficult match as playing Genk at their stadium is not easy. But what's important is that we got a point and we didn't lose. I'm happy to have been voted man of the match tonight, but there is a lot of work still to be done.

Daniel Parejo, Valencia forward
I thought that we controlled the game and they played as we anticipated. We created a lot of chances and deserved to score. I'm happy enough with my own performance, I took advantage of my opportunity to play and I will continue to work hard in order to stay in the first team. We will get better in this tournament, we can draw or even win in London [against Chelsea] or in Leverkusen.
