Paris Saint-Germain FC have announced the signing of David Beckham on a deal until the end of the season.

The 37-year-old midfielder has penned a five-month contract at the Parc des Princes, where he was unveiled amid much fanfare on Thursday afternoon. The former England captain told a packed press conference: "I chose Paris because I can see what the club are trying to do and the players they are bringing in.

"They're a club who will have lots of success over the next ten, 15 or 20 years. To be part of something that is growing is exciting. I'm very honoured to be part of the future of PSG."

Beckham, who won the last of his 115 international caps in October 2009, had been pondering his next move since leaving LA Galaxy in December. He is reunited at PSG with coach Carlo Ancelotti, under whom he played in 2009 during the first of two loan spells with AC Milan.

"The lure was being part of one of the biggest European clubs around, with one of the best managers," explained Beckham, who has pledged to donate his wages to a Paris children's charity. "I was lucky to work with Carlo and Leonardo in Milan. Carlo is one of the best managers I have played for."

Beckham's prestigious career began in England with Manchester United FC, where he won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the UEFA Champions League, before departing for Real Madrid CF in 2003. He helped the Merengues to the Liga championship in his final campaign at the Santiago Bernabéu, 2006/07, prior to his transfer to the MLS.

Beckham's time in the United States finished on a high when he helped the Galaxy to a second successive MLS Cup triumph at the start of last month.

PSG will face Valencia CF in the UEFA Champions League round of 16, with the first leg in Spain on 12 February.
