Juventus coach Conte voted Serie A's best

"It's a great award because it comes from my colleagues," said Juventus boss Antonio Conte after his peers' votes earned him the Golden Bench for Serie A's top coach of 2011/12.

Juventus boss Antonio Conte has been awarded the Golden Bench after being voted the best Serie A coach of last season by his peers.

"It's a great award because it comes from my colleagues," said the 43-year-old, who led Juventus to the 2011/12 league title without losing a game. "It's the second award for me in just a few weeks, after the one voted for by the players. I'm proud of it and it's a great motivation to try to improve in the future.

"We want to confirm our position in Italy but this year we also have another objective as we want to do well in the UEFA Champions League," added Conte, whose side won 3-0 at Celtic FC in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie last week. "The real objective, however, is building something important. You can win trophies without building a future, I want to do both instead."

Conte had won the Silver Bench as best coach in Serie B when in charge of AS Bari in 2008/09. Zdeněk Zeman, sacked by AS Roma earlier this month, took the 2011/12 Silver Bench after spearheading Pescara Calcio's promotion. The voting is carried out under the auspices of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) in Coverciano.
