Dortmund denied Götze for Saturday's final

Borussia Dortmund's Mario Götze, hamstrung since 30 April, has lost his battle to be fit for the final, saying: "I'm sorry I won't be able to help in such an important game."

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Mario Götze will miss the UEFA Champions League final against FC Bayern München on Saturday.

The playmaker is still troubled by the hamstring injury he sustained early in the semi-final second leg against Real Madrid CF. Götze, 20, returned to full training for the first time on Tuesday, but dropped out of the session ten minutes before the end, gesturing he still feels some pain in the muscle he aggravated at the Santiago Bernabéu on 30 April.

Götze, who will join Bayern for a reported €37m in July, said: "The final was my big goal and I've been working really hard over the last few weeks. I'm really sorry I won't be able to help the team in such an important game, but I believe in the squad and of course I'll be travelling to London to support the lads from the sidelines."
