Efficient job leaves PSV proud

PSV Eindhoven midfielder Adam Maher could see nothing but positives after a 3-0 third qualifying round victory in Belgium earned his side a 5-0 aggregate triumph against SV Zulte Waregem and a place in Friday's UEFA Champions League play-off draw. Zulte Waregem captain Davy De Fauw, meanwhile, took pride in a second-leg performance which "really didn't look like a 3-0" despite Steve Colpaert's dismissal just before the hour.

We can look back at the match in a positive way – we played well and the fact we won 5-0 on aggregate is fantastic. Things can always be better, but we are on the right track. We were the better team and we showed that. We waited for the moments when we could hit them, and we struck. The second goal was very nice, as everyone saw. A good cross from Memphis Depay and Zakaria Bakkali put it in very well.

For the play-offs we will just have to see who our opponents will be and then we will see what happens. We are through to the next stage, that was our goal, so we can only be satisfied.

This is a good result, considering it was an away match at Zulte Waregem. They did everything they could, but looking back over the two matches, we were just too strong for them. For the second goal I received the ball on the left wing and I saw Zakaria standing on the other side. I crossed with my left foot and he finished it beautifully.

All we know now is that we can expect a good opponent in the play-offs, but we are also a good side, so it will be a nice game whoever we get. We have faith in our squad and that faith grows stronger with every game.

Compared with last week we did well. We were good man for man, but PSV are a difficult side to play. We also created a very good chance – a shot from Mbaye Leye that was saved on the line. If that had gone in then it would have become a totally different match. At half-time everything was still possible, but after the penalty [converted by Tim Matavž on 56 minutes] we knew it was over – certainly when we went down to ten men.

For Zulte Waregem, this Champions League adventure is one for the history books. We really enjoyed it. We have gained a lot of belief in ourselves. Now we have to wait and see what the UEFA Europa League draw brings.

We played pretty well in the first half – certainly better than last week. We wanted to be tougher in the tackle and get to PSV. We hoped to score the first goal and we had a very good chance, but unfortunately that did not happen.

We showed why we were good enough to finish second last season, despite the result today – it really didn't look like a 3-0 match. This is a whole different level to the Belgian league, but we knew that before we kicked off. It was great – a learning experience for the young players. They have seen what they have to work on.
