Captain Thiago Silva and Italy midfielder Marco Verratti have signed new deals with Paris Saint-Germain FC, tying them both to the club until the summer of 2018.

"We are extremely proud that Thiago has decided to stay with us. He is an exceptional character on and off the pitch and he represents our desire to build one of Europe's strongest teams," said PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

The Brazil centre-back – whose previous deal was due to expire in 2017 – left AC Milan for around €42m 13 months ago and made 22 Ligue 1 appearances in his debut season as the Parisian outfit clinched the French title for the first time in 19 years. He also scored two goals in nine games during PSG's run to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

Verratti, 20, arrived from Pescara Calcio in 2012 and featured in 27 league games last term. "This move marks the intentions of PSG to become one of the biggest clubs in Europe," read a club statement.

Laurent Blanc's side, who began the domestic season with back-to-back stalemates, will learn their 2013/14 UEFA Champions League fate when the draw for the group stage is made in Monaco on Thursday 29 August.
