Boateng agrees Schalke switch

FC Schalke 04 have bolstered their attacking options ahead of the UEFA Champions League group stage with the signing of Kevin-Prince Boateng from AC Milan.

The 26-year-old Ghanaian, who struck two goals as the Rossoneri beat PSV Eindhoven 3-0 in Wednesday’s play-off second leg, underwent a medical examination at the Stadion Gelsenkirchen on Friday afternoon before putting pen to paper on a three-year deal.

"We're in agreement with the player and are delighted the transfer has worked out, said Schalke CEO Clemens Tönnies. "He's precisely the kind of player we need to improve the team."

Boateng moved to Milan in 2010 after impressing at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and went on to score ten goals in 74 Serie A appearances for the Italians. "I am happy to be back home," he said. "The Bundesliga is the best league in the world and the best players belong there. The move simply made sense to me – they have great supporters, who always get behind their team, they have a young manager and I already know [sporting director] Horst Heldt."

The former Hertha BSC Berlin, Tottenham Hotspur FC, Borussia Dortmund and Portsmouth FC midfielder becomes Schalke's fifth summer signing after Dennis Aogo, Leon Goretzka, Ádám Szalai and Felipe Santana.
