Celtic FC have been dealt a blow ahead of their UEFA Champions League opener against AC Milan with the news that Steven Mouyokolo will miss the group stage with an Achilles tendon injury.

The defender, 26, who signed a one-year deal with the Hoops this summer following his release by English side Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, broke down in training this week and has been ruled out for up to six months.

"He had a complete rupture of his Achilles tendon and has had surgery in [his native] France," said manager Neil Lennon. "We are waiting on how well the operation went, but we are looking at maybe six months, so we are hoping to see him sometime in the new year."

Lennon also confirmed that winger James Forrest has been ruled out of Saturday's Scottish Premier League fixture against Heart of Midlothian FC and the trip to Milan after returning from international duty with a back problem.
