"The club's unlimited ambition is unequalled in Europe," said Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi after inking a new four-year deal with the French title holders.

Midfielder Blaise Matuidi has committed his long-term future to Paris Saint-Germain by putting pen to paper on a new four-year contract.

The French international, 26, has become a mainstay of Paris's midfield since joining from AS Saint-Étienne in summer 2011, scoring nine goals in 91 Ligue 1 appearances. "I was determined to continue this adventure with Paris Saint-Germain," said the player whose original deal was due to expire this summer. "The club's unlimited ambition is unequalled in Europe. Together, we will continue to dream bigger."

Paris president Nasser Al-Khelaifi added: "Blaise Matuidi wants to leave his mark on the history of Paris Saint-Germain. We are sending out a very strong message to France and the rest of Europe by re-signing one of France's very best players. Together, we want to build one of the best clubs in the world."

Five points clear at the Ligue 1 summit, Laurent Blanc's men take a 4-0 first-leg advantage into their UEFA Champions League round of 16 decider against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on 12 March.
