As the dust settles on UEFA Champions League matchday one, which players brought in the most points – and could therefore be in contention for a place in your teams next time out? UEFA.com crunches the numbers.

Goalkeepers
Three keepers brought in seven points: Andriy Pyatov (FC Shakhtar Donetsk), Gorka Iraizoz (Athletic Club) and Yuri Lodygin (FC Zenit). At €5.5m, €5m and €4.5m respectively, each could be a cheaper alternative should you be looking to free up funds elsewhere.

Defenders
Goalscorers Jerôme Boateng (FC Bayern München) and Gerard Piqué (FC Barcelona) brought in 14 and 13 points respectively, with FC Porto's Danilo the only other player in double figures (ten points) – and, at €4.0m, a cheaper option than his two rivals. Six players collected eight points: Neven Subotić and Sokratis Papastathopoulos (Borussia Dortmund), Maicon and Kostas Manolas (AS Roma), Aymeric Laporte (Athletic) and Arthur Masuaku (Olympiacos FC). At just €3.0m, the latter could prove to be one of the season's bargains.

Midfielders
An undoubted star here, Yacine Brahimi's hat-trick for FC Porto against FC BATE Borisov bringing in 17 points. Gareth Bale (Real Madrid CF) and Ibrahim Afellay (Olympiacos) both captured ten, and another five players managed eight: James Rodríguez (Madrid), Axel Witsel (Zenit), Lasse Schöne (AFC Ajax), João Moutinho (AS Monaco FC) and Dennis Praet (RSC Anderlecht). Of those, Praet (€4.5m) and Schöne (€5.5m) look to be the value signings – as does Brahimi, also €5.5m.

Forwards
Roma's 5-1 win against PFC CSKA Moskva brought in plenty of points for Gervinho (13) and Juan Manuel Iturbe (11) – although, as the latter was forced off by injury, you might want to hold off on rushing him into your team. Carlos Tévez (Juventus) brought in ten points, and there were nine for Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, while Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang got seven. He and Gervinho are €8.5m each, considerably cheaper than the others although Iturbe is just €6.0m – but bear in mind that injury issue.
