Celta stay
The 32-year-old, who is leaving Valencia on a free transfer, began his career with his hometown club in 1992/93 before spending one season at RCD Mallorca. He then moved on to RC Celta de Vigo, where he stayed for five seasons. Sánchez returned to Valencia for the 1999/00 campaign, and played a key role in their run to the 2001 UEFA Champions League final, where they lost to FC Bayern München on penalties.

Day of celebration
He was made captain for his last game for Valencia against Albacete Balompié on Sunday. Despite the 1-0 defeat, it was a day of celebration with the Primera División trophy and UEFA Cup on show. Sánchez said: "I knew that this would be my last year with Valencia and I made my decision a long time ago. I'm pleased that my final game has been so special."
