FC Barcelona will be without midfielder Andrés Iniesta for their UEFA Champions League Group G opener at home to FC Spartak Moskva on 19 September after the 28-year-old suffered an adductor muscle strain.

Part of the Spain side that earned a 1-0 FIFA World Cup qualifying victory away to Georgia on Tuesday, Iniesta returned to his club complaining of discomfort in his right leg and, following medical tests, was deemed unfit for action for up to a fortnight. Meanwhile, another member of Spain's victorious party in Tbilisi, Jordi Alba, is also being monitored by Barcelona doctors after the full-back showed flu symptoms on his arrival back in Catalonia.

As well as Spartak, four-time European champions Barça will face SL Benfica and Celtic FC in their UEFA Champions League section.
