Chelsea pick up free agent Schwarzer

Chelsea FC have signed experienced cover for goalkeeper Petr Čech in the 40-year-old Australian international Mark Schwarzer, who was a free agent after leaving Fulham FC.

Chelsea FC have signed experienced cover for goalkeeper Petr Čech in Australian international Mark Schwarzer.

Schwarzer, who was a free agent after leaving Chelsea's neighbours Fulham FC, has signed a 12-month deal with the Stamford Bridge club. The 40-year-old has made over 500 Premier League appearances over the course of 16 full seasons in England, and played in UEFA Europa League finals for both Middlesbrough FC and Fulham.

Capped over 100 times by Australia, Schwarzer told the Chelsea website: "It's one of the biggest and best clubs in the world, and it's an honour to sign for Chelsea. I didn't take much convincing to come here."
