Having agreed terms to stay at FC Bayern München a few weeks ago, Claudio Pizarro has now signed a one-year contract to remain at the UEFA Champions League holders for another season.
The 34-year-old is relishing the prospect of playing at the Bundesliga champions for an eighth season having seen his current deal expire at the end of June. "I am 34 – there's nothing better than getting another contract at Bayern München," said the Peruvian international striker prior to the team's departure for their pre-season training camp in Tretino. "I believe we will both have a good year."
Pizarro, who has scored 112 goals in 281 competitive appearances for Bayern, first played for the club between 2001 and 2007 before spells with SV Werder Bremen and Chelsea FC preceded his return to Munich in 2012. The Bundesliga's all-time leading non-German goalscorer is delighted with his new deal but is refusing to look beyond the end of next season. "I can't say what might happen a year from now," he added. "I'm feeling good, and I want to play football for as long as possible."
Bayern begin the defence of their crown in the group stage, the draw for which takes place on 29 August in Monaco.
