Song goes west to Feyenoord

Song Chong-gug, the Korean Republic defender, is to join UEFA Cup holders Feyenoord.

Korean Republic defender Song Chong-gug has completed a medical with Feyenoord ahead of signing a five-year contract with the Dutch club.

World Cup
The 23-year-old Song was part of the Korean side which reached the FIFA World Cup semi-finals and he becomes the fifth Korean international to sign for a European club.

'Fast, dynamic defender'
Feyenoord coach Bert van Marwijk said: "It's a player we have been observing for a long time. He's a fast, dynamic defender who can occupy all right-side positions on the pitch. He will definitely make us stronger and the World Cup convinced us of his qualities."

Korean legion
The other Korean players in Europe are Cha Du-ri at Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Lee Eul-yong at Trabzonspor, Perugia AC's Ahn Jung-hwan and Seol Ki-hyeon at RSC Anderlecht. Feyenoord take on Fenerbahçe SK in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tomorrow.
